FAQ

Everything you might want to know before applying.

    What is kosher certification?+

Kosher certification is a formal verification by a recognized rabbinical authority that a product, ingredient, and the facility producing it comply with Jewish dietary laws (kashrut). Once certified, you can display a kosher symbol on your packaging — a trusted mark recognized by millions of shoppers across Africa and Kenya.

Do you issue the kosher certification yourselves?+

No. Kosher Kenya does not certify products directly — we partner with leading kosher certification agencies and match each company with the agency that best fits its products, market, and goals.

How long does kosher certification take?+

Most products are certified within 4–8 weeks of receiving a complete application. Simple, single-ingredient products move faster; complex supply chains, imported ingredients, or shared facilities may take longer.

How much does kosher certification cost?+

Pricing depends on the size of your facility, the number of products, and the complexity of your supply chain. After an initial review we provide a clear, all-in quote — no surprise fees.

What's required from us to get started?+

We need a product list, ingredient documentation and supplier kosher letters where applicable, a description of your production process, and access for a facility walk-through. We guide you through each step and help you collect what's missing.

Do you work with brands outside Africa?+

Our specialty is African manufacturers, but we partner with agencies across Africa and Kenya and can certify facilities across the continent. Our entire process is built around African ingredients, processes, and supply chains.

Will kosher certification help my sales?+

Kosher products reach over 12 million kosher-conscious consumers in the US alone, plus millions more across Africa and Kenya. Beyond that audience, the kosher symbol is widely recognized as a mark of integrity and supervision — many shoppers buy kosher simply because they trust the standard.

Will retailers and distributors care that I'm kosher certified?+

Yes. Many major retailers, foodservice buyers, and international distributors prefer or require kosher certification because it expands the product's addressable market and signals strong supply-chain controls.

Is kosher certification required for export?+

Not legally, but in many markets — particularly the US, Israel, and parts of Europe and Latin America — kosher certification dramatically increases retail acceptance and consumer trust.

    What happens after we're certified?+

You receive an official certificate from the partnering agency, permission to display their kosher symbol on packaging, and ongoing supervision to maintain certification year over year.

    Is there an annual renewal?+

Yes. Certification is renewed annually with a streamlined review of any product, ingredient, supplier, or process changes from the previous year.

What if we change an ingredient or supplier?+

Just let us know. Any new ingredient, supplier, or process change needs to be reviewed and approved before going into a certified product. Most updates are quick to clear.

Can a single ingredient or product be certified, or only a whole facility?+

Both. We can certify a single product line or your entire facility — whichever fits your needs and budget.

Do you certify supplements, cosmetics, or pet food?+

Yes, where the agency we partner with offers that scope. Many African supplement, personal-care, and pet-food brands benefit significantly from kosher certification.

Is kosher certification the same as parve or pareve?+

Pareve (or parve) is a kosher classification meaning a product contains neither meat nor dairy. Most products are naturally pareve when produced under proper kosher supervision — a major advantage for African brands.
